Gndevank Monastery

The ancient monastery complex is a thousand years old, and still in very good condition.

According to the legend, the church was constructed in 936 AD, by Armenian Princess Sophia. The landscapes of the areas and the breathtaking views astonished the princess, and she decided to build a church in this location.

She stated the purpose of her building as: “Vayots Dzor was a ring without a jewel but I built this monastery as the jewel for the ring“. Priest Yeghishe was entrusted the responsibility for its construction.
